What Sarah Michelle Gellar Says Her Kids Think About "Buffy"

It seems that everyone's binge-watching new shows and old favorites during quarantine, and celebrity families are no different. In the case of Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr.'s offspring, their latest marathon is both. In an Oct. 7 interview with Kelly Clarkson, Sarah Michelle Gellar revealed that her kids are watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer for the first time and that they're already super-fans of the late '90s series that made their mom famous. Read on to learn what they think of Buffy, and for more celebrity kids who've gotten so big, check out Nicole Richie's 12-Year-Old Daughter Looks Just Like Her Now.

"We just started. I had never thought to show it to them, and they asked during quarantine," Gellar told Clarkson when she asked if Charlotte, 10, and Ricky, 8, had seen the vampire drama. "We were trying to like, find shows to binge, and I was like, okay, I didn't even know if they would be into it but they are so into it."

Gellar played the high school student/demon hunter Buffy Summers from 1997 to 2003, scoring a Golden Globe nomination and several Teen Choice Awards. Around the time it premiered, she also met her future husband. They costarred in the '90s teen slasher hit I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Buffy remains a hero to many, and Gellar trained in kickboxing, gymnastics, and martial arts for the part, as well as doing as many of her own stunts as she could, per Health. Now, seeing her in action as the slayer has scored her points with her kids. "My son actually thinks that I'm cool now," she said on The Kelly Clarkson Show.

However, her children aren't finding her to be the wealth of behind-the-scenes Buffy knowledge that they'd hoped. Gellar said she's "the world's biggest disappointment for them" because she can't recall all the details of filming anymore. "I'll be like, 'I don't remember, I'll have to text someone and ask.'" she said. "They think they know it better than I do at this point."

In a 2014 interview with Jimmy Fallon, Marvel Cinematic Universe star Mark Ruffalo told a hilarious story about impressing (and also terrifying) one of his daughter's preschool classmates who recognized him as the Hulk. When the child asked him to "turn into" the big green guy, Ruffalo started playing the part, leading to the kid immediately regretting his decision.

You likely know him first and foremost as the eponymous lead character of Dawson's Creek, but James Van Der Beek also starred in the Texas high school football drama Varsity Blues in the early days of his career. Earlier this year, he documented his kids' first reactions to seeing the film on Instagram. The verdict? "I hate that accent," and other raves.

3 Hilary Duff

Last year, Hilary Duff's husband, Matthew Koma, shared a short and sweet clip on his Instagram story of the whole family watching her 2003 flick, The Lizzie McGuire Movie. No verbal reviews from her then-seven-year-old and one-year-old kids, but they both look positively rapt.

To see what Duff's contemporaries are up to these days, here are The Biggest Disney Channel Stars, Then and Now.

Actor Devon Sawa became a teen idol in large part due to his brief but memorable appearance as the corporeal friendly ghost in 1995's Casper. Earlier this year, he shared on Instagram that he showed the movie to his six-year-old Hudson, who dubbed it, "Amazing." Aw.

5 John Legend

His daughter Luna may be about the only person in the world who doesn't want a private serenade from John Legend. Mom Chrissy Teigen caught a funny moment between the father and daughter in 2018, wherein then-two-year-old Luna repeatedly tells her dad to stop singing.

Any kid would be thrilled to live with their favorite Disney character, right? Wrong. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was eager to tell his daughter Jasmine, then four, that he was the lovable demigod Maui in the musical Moana.

"Maui starts singing, and I then start singing," he told People, "and within 10 seconds she's trying to put a pillow over my mouth and says, 'You're ruining the song.'"
